How Much Care Is Needed?
Almost nobody knows the answer to this when they first call, and you are not expected to. A rough guide:
- They are managing, but you are worried. A few days a week is usually enough, someone to check in, cook properly, and notice things before they become problems.
- Washing, dressing or the stairs have become difficult. Weekday or seven-day cover during the day, so the hardest parts of the routine are supported.
- You are worried about the nights, or about falls. A twelve-hour night shift, or day and night cover between two carers.
- They have come out of hospital or had a fall. Heavier cover to begin with, stepping down as they recover.
If you would rather not guess, we will do an assessment and tell you what we would suggest, including if that is less than you were expecting to pay for.

Nursing Services and Assessments
In addition to day-to-day care, Home Angels offers professional nursing services and assessments. These can be particularly valuable following a hospital stay, surgery or a fall, or when a loved one’s needs have changed and the appropriate level of ongoing care needs to be determined.
Common Questions
How quickly can a carer start?
We will always do our best to arrange care as quickly as possible. We generally require 1–2 days to arrange a suitable Carer. This allows us time to understand your care requirements and select the right Carer for your loved one.
What if we don't get on with the carer?
A good personality fit is an important part of a successful care relationship. If you feel the Carer isn’t the right fit for your loved one or family, simply let us know and we will arrange a suitable replacement.
Do you help with dementia specifically?
Our home-based care services are available to anyone who needs assistance to continue living safely and comfortably at home. This includes people living with dementia, and we can provide Carers experienced in dementia care. For those requiring residential care, our Retirement Home is specifically designed and equipped to care for people living with all forms of dementia.
Can we combine Home-Care with the Senior Day Care Centre?
Absolutely. Many families combine home-based care with visits to our Senior Day Care Centre. This can provide the ideal balance of support at home together with companionship, activities and social interaction at the Centre.
What does it cost?
Costs depend on the hours required, so we provide each family with an individual quote. Send us your requirements, or feel free to call us to discuss your needs. We’ll provide a clear quote, at no charge and with no obligation.
What areas do you cover?
Upper Highway, greater Durban, the South Coast as far as Amanzimtoti, and the North Coast as far as Salt Rock.
Not Sure What You Need Yet?
That is the normal starting point. Tell us what is happening and we will tell you what we would suggest, including if the answer is less care than you thought.
